ABOUT

Since 2026, I’ve held the position of Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Queen Mary University of London, working on my project ‘Unspeakable Needs: A Political Theory of Voice and Poverty'. Before coming to Queen Mary, I was a Lecturer in Political Theory at SOAS University of London (2023–2025). I’ve also held the position of Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) Postdoctoral Fellow at UCL (2022–2023).

My ESRC-funded doctoral research at the University of Bristol (2017–2022) examined the concept of need in contemporary political theory and in the work of Karl Marx. It was awarded the Political Studies Association’s Sir Ernest Barker Prize for best dissertation in political theory, as well as the School of Sociology, Politics, and International Studies’ Hilary Hartley Prize.

I hold a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2025) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Education (2008). I’ve been nominated for several teaching awards, and in 2025 was runner-up for the SOAS Learning and Teaching Award for Innovative Teaching. Before returning to academic life in 2017, I taught secondary school Politics and Economics for 10 years in London.
